Single Mom learns crochet for baby with hydrocephalus, earns admiration online

2 Mins read

The internet and social media is taking so much time of many of us. But there’s a single mom who’s spending the majority of her time on making lovely crocheted items such as dolls, costumes, souvenirs, hats and decors so she could raise her four-and-a-half-year-old daughter, who, by the way, has hydrocephalus.

It was in 2018 when this young mom, Eraiza Ramos, started learning to crochet. It all started with her baby’s monthly pictorials. To save up as times were tough, she herself made her infant’s photoshoot costumes. Yes, it was a self-taught skill which she learned to master with time. That’s how determined she was.

From thereon, the DIY outfits evolved into more crocheted items until she decided to start her own crochet business. Special thanks to those who boosted her confidence. Thus, Eleira’s Crochet was born!

This fiber artist behind Eleira’s Crochet is 24 years old and her forte is amigurumi dolls but she also makes seasonal wreaths, flowers, giveaways and other stuff. For Eraiza, learning is a continuous process.

And because experience is the best teacher she gradually leveled up on her skill; ensuring that each piece she does is done with dedication. To date, she has probably done more than two thousand pieces and some of those orders have made it outside the country.

She’s thankful to God to have learned this skill as she’s able to personally look after her daughter Eleira who requires special care and attention. Working from home suits her and her daughter just fine. Eleira, she shared, is receiving treatment for her hydrocephalus, so it’s such a relief that her crochet business is earning from P30,000-P50,000 a month.

Being a mother and a breadwinner at the same time is not easy. However, she tries her best to manage her time well so she could look after their house and her child with special needs.

In mid-July, her inspiring story was featured on Pera-paraan and many admired her strength and determination to excel in her craft for her daughter’s needs and treatments.

By liking and sharing her work via Facebook and Instagram, you are also helping her and Baby Eleira have a good life. And yes, you might want to order! Check her social  media pages and be amazed with her works of art.

It’s a great gift idea to give someone special a personalized doll or a lovely bouquet of flowers that never wilt.
