Remember the viral father who attended his daughter’s graduation? It’s now his turn to graduate.
Back in June, Taray Florentino “Flory” Idias of Dalaguete town in southern Cebu became viral when his photo with his daughter, Guillerma, on her graduation day circulated online. Despite looking sweaty from work, Guillerma honored her father; saying that she was proud of him despite his appearance.
Tatay Flory works as a backhoe operator and went straight from work to attend his daughter’s special day. Guillerma was truly proud of her hardworking father and said, “Hindi kita kinakahiya, Pa.”
After their story captivated the hearts of netizens, it’s now Tatay Flory’s turn to show off his achievements! In a post from A.Cayme Photography on Facebook, we get to finally see Tatay Flory on his graduation day. He was among the junior high school graduates who received their diplomas on September 12, 2022. Department of Education’s Alternative Learning System (ALS), Tatay Flory was able to achieve his dream of graduating even at the age of 50.
According to the post, Tatay Flory is a father to 9 children; with his wife working as a housewife. When he was 15 years old and in his second year of high school, he stopped going to school because of poverty. The years have gone by swiftly for him as he got married and focused on providing for his family. Through his hard work and the ALS program, he finally got his chance to finally finish junior high school.

Speaking in Visayan, Tatay Flory encouraged everyone, especially the youth, to focus on their studies and not waste their time. He added that children should finish their studies so they get more opportunities in life. You can now take a turn caring for your parents once you earn your diploma and realize your goals.
“Dapat dili sayangan and panahon ug dead mentras bata pa ta sa pag-eskwela. Dako kaayo ang oportunidad kung makahuman gyud ug skwela para kamo na pud ang makatabang sa inyong mga ginikinan,” he said.
