“Walang mahirap sa taong nagsusumikap.”
A student working as a tricycle driver shared his inspiring story of getting into his dream college.
Netizens couldn’t help but be touched by the inspiring message of Gerome Cuaño on Facebook. He works as a tricycle driver and also studies as a 4th year criminology student. Even more, he got into his dream college — Our Lady of Fatima University.
As a tricycle driver, Gerome used to feel jealous of the students he would take to the university. During that time, he thought going to a university was impossible for him since he already has a child. He would often wonder how it felt to go to be a college student.
“Way back 2017 [to] 2018 noong madalas ako makapag-hatid ng student dito halos ramdam ko lagi yung inggit kasi sila nakakapag aral, tapos ako may anak na, malabo nang matupad pangarap ko.
Gerome recalled that when he graduated in high school, he tried asking his mother if he could go to college. Unfortunately, life was hard for them and he chose to become a tricycle driver to earn a living instead.
Gerome worked day and night trying to save up enough money for his dream of going back to school. Finally in 2019, he took his mother to be with him as he enrolled in the university.
But it wasn’t the end of his struggle as it was just the beginning. While studying, there were many times when he had to lend money to pay for tuition fees.
Now, he’s near his goal of finishing college and he couldn’t be any happier. Gerome encouraged other working students like him not to give up in reaching their goals in life.
