Indeed, life has angels and they don’t always have wings! One amazing angel on earth chanced upon an elderly man and paved the way for him to finally have his own home sweet home!
Lolo Angelito Gino-gino, who’s now 73 years old, went viral years ago because of his viral smiling face as he sells his sweet lollipops in different places in Angeles, Pampanga despite his age. He became “Lolo Pops” to his customers.
Kids and adults were drawn to buy from him not just because of the appeal of his products but because of his warm smile which makes it hard for them to ignore him, as one customer narrated.
He and his wife – who suffered a stroke in 2011 – used to live in Bulacan together with their daughter and grandchildren, but he sells his candies in Pampanga. It was shared via Facebook that he had been selling the sweets for over a decade. He does not come back home until all his items are sold; hence, there are days when he is forced to sleep just about anywhere he can take some sleep. He has a family to support so he couldn’t afford to go easy.
When the pandemic hit, Lolo Pops was forced to stay at home; being a senior citizen. It was another test of courage. He had difficulty selling his lollipops, and worse, soon after, his supplier of sweets closed down. Awww
When seniors were allowed to go out again, he tried other ways to earn a living. He started selling pastillas and polvoron aboard his pedicab. No time to be wasted for Lolo Pops. And because of this more people lauded his determination and positive mindset.
Lolo Pops got his fair share of angels. At different times some people sent help to assist him and his family. However, there’s a specific person whose attention was drawn towards helping Lolo Pops have more sales – through online selling – so he could reach more orders nationwide.
A kind and beautiful lady named Arriane Ocampo, a former ‘suki’, paved the way for him to reach more customers; more sales. She helped Lolo Pops and his family level up to an online store. It was not easy at first but they eventually got the hang of it.
Aside from his sweets, pastillas and polvoron, Lolo Pop and his family are already selling other products as well like chili garlic ‘bagoong’ (shrimp paste).
His online store, Lolo Pop’s Polvoron & Pastillas, now has nearly 106K followers! Wow!
Amazingly, after a year of online selling combined with Lolo Pops’ pedicab sales, it became possible for them to have their own humble home in Angeles City.
It was something, he said, he never thought would ever be possible. He and his wife are beyond grateful.
“‘Yung mga suki ko, labis labis ang pasasalamat ko, ” a super thankful Lolo Pops said to his loyal and supportive customers. And to his fellow seniors he says to never lose faith in God. “Nasa Diyos ang awa, nasa tao ang gawa.”
He continues to sell using his pedicab and said he will not stop as long as he still can. Salute, Lolo Pops!
Watch and be blessed with his life story:
