‘Gulay’ bouquet, anyone?

A college graduate is truly proud of her unique “gulay” or vegetable bouquet given to her by her parents.

What did you receive on your graduation day?

Most graduates often receive special gifts, or welcome with garlands or bouquets of flowers from their parents or loved ones. However, one college graduate from Naga, Cebu received something extra special.

Rosemarie “Rose” Villarin was all smiles as she donned her graduation toga and on her arms was a beautiful bouquet made of fresh vegetables. The special bouquet was more than a gift from her parents. It also represented her parents hardwork as farmers so she could finish her education.

Rose’s mother Senda handed her daughter the special bouquet which was truly the fruits of their labor. Nanay Senda, who works as a farmer in Barangay Jaguimit, Naga, Cebu, is proud of her daughter Rose’s achievement. Rose’s father, Tatay Daniel, is equally proud but couldn’t attend the graduation ceremony because he had to work tilling the land. Being the fifth child among 8 siblings, Rose’s achievement was also her family’s success.

Even more impressive, Rose graduated as Cum Laude with a degree in Bachelor of Elementary Education at the Cebu Technological University-Naga Extension Campus.

As a scholar, Rose also extended her appreciation to Naga Cebu Mayor Val Chiong and those who extended their support. She wrote, “Salamat kaayo ninyong tanan. To God be all the glory and praise.” [Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat.]

The inspiring story was shared on the official Facebook page of the Local Government of Naga, Cebu. The post earned many positive comments and reactions from netizens who congratulated Rose and her parents for their hardwork.

A netizen commented, “Congratulations! It doesn’t matter the background status of our family. What matters most is we have the courage, dedication, and hardwork to continue dreaming and make it a reality. Not just only dreaming but preparing ourselves for what we become in the near future. Once again congratulations to you and to the proud parents!”
