Teachers truly have a huge impact on our lives. For Harry Styles, he didn’t hesitate to stop his show just so he could greet his first-ever teacher from primary school.
The celebrity superstar was in front of a crowd of 26,000 while performing at the Emirates Old Trafford stadium in Manchester, UK. He decided to pause for a moment and ask his fans to look for someone in the audience. He was quoted on CBS News saying, “I’m going to ask a favor from you because I’d like to try and find someone in the audience.”
Harry was looking for his “first-ever school teacher,” named Ann Vernon. His performance was his homecoming as he grew up in Cheshire. He was also told that some of his former schoolteachers would watch him perform.
Harry waved at someone from the crowd whom he thought was his teacher Mrs. Vernon. Unfortunately, it was her colleague, Mrs. Bailey. Harry’s first teacher wasn’t in attendance but he still thanked her for her kindness and patience.
Kneeling to talk to Mrs. Bailey, thinking it was Mrs. Vernon, Harry said, “How are you? I heard you’re retiring. I’d just like to thank you for everything in those formative years. And yeah, thank you so much, it means a lot to me that you’re here tonight.”
“Can you imagine dealing with me when I was 4?” Harry joked. He then dedicated his next song, “Canyon Moon,” to his former teacher.
Harry’s message for his former teacher finally reached Mrs. Vernon. In an interview, she described Harry as “adorable and a cheeky.”
“I taught him when he was four and five and he was adorable. He was a little bit of a monkey, cheeky, and he had lots of friends so a lot of his personality that you see now was quite evident from an early age,” she said.
