They always say success is sweeter when it’s made out of hard work. Such is the story of one call center agent, now team leader (TL), who is set to graduate in college through perseverance and pure grit.

On TikTok, Nika Javier shared her inspiring story of being a working student. Like many “Bayaning Puyat”, Nika entered the BPO industry as her family’s breadwinner.

For four years, Nika juggled her studies while working as a call center agent. Finally, she’s now in her last semester in college and she couldn’t help but look back at her journey.

She shared that she applied as a call center agent shortly after finishing Grade 12. Aside from helping provide for her family’s needs, Nika had high hopes of finishing college. Nika enrolled at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in Sta. Mesa, Manila. She took up a degree in Advertising and Public Relations.

Nika recalled, “After Grade 12 nag-apply na ako agad sa BPO to support my college education while being the breadwinner of my family. Estudyante sa umaga, call center sa gabi.”

“Four years na po ako nag wowork since May 2018. Nag tetraining po ako sa work while nag aasikaso ng enrollment that time,” she added.

Determined to succeed, Nika rose in her career. From being a call center agent, she became a Subject Matter Expert (SME), to a Team Leader (TL) or supervisor. Even more impressive, Nika did it all while still being a college student. It was no easy feat as she recalled feeling exhausted and sleepy all the time. “Laging pagod or antok, sa school man or sa work,” she shared.

Like any good inspiring story, Nika is ready to don her toga and finally graduate from college. She explained, “‘Di pa po ako graduate. Hehe. Pero on my last sem na po. Inspiration ko po is ‘yung family ko.”

Nika said that she hopes to inspire other working students not to give up on their dreams. No matter how difficult the journey is, there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. She reminded everyone that there’s no easy work or college course, what matters is your determination to succeed.

“Kagaya ng lagi kong reply sa comment section, ‘laban lang’. Walang madaling course o work, palaging mahirap, laging may need isacrifice- laban lang,” Nika advised.

Nika’s story has gone viral as many working student draw inspiration from her story.

“2 months na sa BPO, fresh grad shs. Planning to enroll for college. Thank you kasi napanood ko tong video mo, TL. Laban lang,” a netizen commented.
