Twin girls born with matching snow-white hair grew to become beautiful young girls. The story of twin girls born with albinism has become viral as many people were captivated and intrigued by this very rare occurrence.
Parents always look at their babies with awe and love. So when Jorge Gomez and his wife first looked at their newborn babies with matching snow-white hair, far from what they have, they instantly knew they were special. The couple named their babies, Catalina and Virginia.
The special twin girls were born prematurely at a hospital in Tucuman province, Argentina. Catalina was first delivered; coming in at 5.95 lbs. Two minutes later came Virginia; weighing 5.5 lbs.
Virginia and Catalina are Argentina’s first-ever rare albino twins. Their mother and father were overjoyed with the news. The parents of the twins did not consider their children as “different” or a burden in any manner.
“When they gave us the news that we would have two babies, it gave us a lot of happiness and when they were born and we saw that they were albinos, that happiness did not change at all,” Jorge said on LV12.
“For us it is a blessing,” he added.
Albinism is a rare genetic condition caused by mu
tations of certain genes that affect the amount of melanin your body produces. Thus, it affects the color of the skin. Albinism is a hereditary trait, so it can be passed down through generations in a family. It is so rare that in the US, only one out of every 17,000 babies is born with albinism.
Years after their birth, the girls grew up into beautiful young girls. Because of their albinism, Catalina and Virginia might need extra attention and care, especially when it comes to sun exposure and UV rays.
