Back in 2016, Selena was dubbed as the “Queen of Instagram” as she was the most followed celebrity on the platform. At that time, she had over 103 million followers and next in line was Taylor Swift with 94.1 million followers. But Selena dropped everything and disconnected herself from the internet.

According to the award-winning singer and producer, staying away from the web has changed her life completely. It also made a significant impact on her mental health and even made her more connected with people.

Selena shared on Good Morning America, “It has changed my life completely. I am happier, I am more present, I connect more with people.”

She revealed that she has been keeping up with important news through her peers and not online. “I understand how powerful the internet is, and in so many ways it’s done the best things for the world. But for me, I get to my news that is actually important I get through people in my life,” she added.

Now, Selena has over 310 million followers on Instagram but a team handles her account for her.

She’s now promoting “Wondermind,” a mental health platform she helped found. The platform is focused on connecting and educating people on mental illnesses and ending the stigma around mental health issues.

Back in 2020, Selena opened up about her mental health struggles and revealed she has bipolar disorder.
