It’s probably true that love can make us do crazy things. For a Vietnamese man named Ho Hoang Hung, he would try to cross the ocean on his own to see his beloved wife.

Unfortunately, it didn’t go so well.

Hung was found by the Royal Thai Navy floating in an inflatable boat trying to cross the ocean. According to a report by Mashable Southeast Asia, Hung, who was in Vietnam, wanted to visit his wife who was working in Mumbai, India.

They haven’t seen each other since the pandemic and Hung was on a mission to see her.

Hung initially planned to travel from Vietnam to India via plane but he couldn’t secure a visa.

Determined to accomplish his goal, he took a bus to Phuket, Thailand. It was there he decided to buy a boat and row towards India. The estimated journey to the Indian coast was around 2,000 kilometers or 1,242 miles.

Hung was in the ocean for 18 days and covered 80 kilometers (49.7 miles) off Thailand’s mainland before he was rescued by the Thai navy’s maritime security unit.

It was discovered that Hung didn’t have enough supplies and equipment needed for his journey. In his inflatable boat, he only had water, some dry food, and instant noodles.

He also didn’t have any form of navigational tools to direct him.

Despite his unsuccessful journey, the Thai Navy couldn’t help but praise him for his love and dedication. Their Facebook post was translated, saying, “No matter how big the ocean is, it can’t block this man’s true love.”
