A 24-year-old Puerto Rican beauty has become Victoria’s Secret’s first model with Down Syndrome; breaking boundaries in the fashion industry.
Sofia Jirau has been included as one of the faces of Victoria’s Secret’s Love Cloud Collection campaign; the lingerie company’s line of comfy bras and underwear.
Taking her ‘big secret’ to Instagram, Sofia said it was a dream come true for her and for people with similar condition.
“One day I dreamed of it, I worked on it and today it is a dream come true. I can finally tell you my big secret,” wrote Sofia in Spanish. “I am the first Victoria’s Secret model with Down syndrome!”
She shared a black and white photo of herself wearing one of Love Cloud Collection’s bras, which was taken from her photoshoot.
In a recent interview with NBC, Sofia shared it was her biggest accomplishment since debuting at the New York Fashion Week in 2020.
“I want to tell the whole world that people with my condition, Down syndrome, inside and out, we have no limits,” the model said.
Raúl Martinez, Victoria Secret’s chief creative director, described the Love Cloud Collection as a ‘major moment’ in the Victoria’s Secret evolution.
“From the cast of incredible women that bring the collection to life, to the incredible inclusive spirit on set, this campaign is an important part of the new Victoria’s Secret standard we are creating,” Martinez said in a statement.
Sofia is joined by 17 other women of different ages, body types and backgrounds such as Hailey Baldwin, Adut Akech, Taylor Hill, Valentina Sampaio and Paloma Elsesser, among others.
A teenager, also with Down syndrome, is breaking down the barriers as she becomes a top model. Years ago when Kennedy Garcia was born, her mother refused to put her up for adoption. Now, Kennedy is enjoying the best life as she proves everyone wrong.
