Caves can be scary. But if you’re up for something exciting and spectacular, the Cavinti Underground River and Caves Complex could be the cave experience you need!

On Facebook, the travel page Dare to Explore PH shared photos of The Cavinti Underground River and Caves, another hidden treasure of Laguna. It is located in Brgy. Paowin in the municipality of Cavinti. It is Cavinti’s most promoted tourist destination, according to the tourism office.

Mr. Gardo Sanchez, a local farmer and resident, discovered the underground river and cave complex. Mang Gardo accidentally discovered the cave’s opening while collecting wood for charcoal making. The municipality of Cavinti then launched an exploration of the caves complex on March 22, 2011. Finally, on March 30, 2013, it was made available to the public as a premier ecotourism destination.

Going there and best time to visit

You should give it a try come summer, but for a more challenging experience, visit the area between January and February. The off-road trail to the cave is difficult for those who are not used to outdoor activities, but it is a rewarding experience for those who are. It is advised to take advantage of the 4×4 rides provided by suppliers commissioned by the LGU rather than risk your vehicle entering the cave.

Spelunking, water falls, cave chambers

You can choose between beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels of difficulty; depending on how far you want to go. Anyone interested in trying caving should be prepared to crawl along the way. This is because there are some sections that are extremely narrow and small.

You should also expect to get wet because the water flows inside the cave complex. Guests are suggested to go to two chambers only. However, you can enjoy spelunking and be awestruck with the amazing stalagmites of the caves. The refreshing river bath and free natural massage from the mini waterfalls are a real plus.

If you’re interested in giving this extreme adventure a try, you can go to Bumbungan Eco Park, to book a trip. It is also the take-off point to the cave. The experience is definitely worth exploring!
